Giving and receiving

Posted by Paul Worswick on 4 July 2010 at 8:00 am

There are times when we are in a position to share our gifts with others and we are more than willing to do this; however when we are asked to accept the generosity of others we prefer to spurn their generosity; opting instead to make excuses for rejecting it.

Is Challenge Natural?

Posted by Jayne Sherwood on 26 June 2010 at 8:00 am

This week has been a challenge for me. It has shown me one thing however and that is that you never stop learning! We live in a culture where we’re told, ” well there is only one thing you can do!” After all, we’re only human, if we’re told there’s only one way out of any challenge then we take the easiest option. What if we took on the challenge and took the choice to do something a little different and jump out of the box?

Expectations

Posted by Paul Worswick on 20 June 2010 at 8:00 am

This post is about expectations and how if you’re not careful they can either overpower you, or fail to generate enough enthusiasm to reach the right level of performance. We all have expectations for the different projects we take on each day; expectations that, unfortunately are sometimes set too high, whilst on other occasions they are set far too low.

Commitment

Posted by Paul Worswick on 17 June 2010 at 8:00 am

Commitment is an important element of your performance, the level achieve and the effort you apply. We hear much said about commitment on a regular basis, not just in the workplace but also in our private lives; at home and socially. How easy is it to commit to something; is it a case of simply saying, “yes, I’ll do that for you”, or “leave it to me I’ll sort it out for you.” Is it necessary to have a financial gain in place before a commitment can be considered? Money plays a big part in many other aspects of our lives, how much of a part does it play in our commitment to the cause?

Honesty is something that encroaches our lives every single day in one way or another. Whether it’s your honesty being tested by others or you having doubts about another person’s honesty. Is there a difference between your honesty and that of others? Are there levels of honesty or more to the point are there acceptable levels of honesty?

To be calm is mentally to be free from agitation, excitement, or disturbance. Calmness can happen for any of us during a state of relaxation; however we can also find it in an aware state too. At times we will find that focusing our mind on something external, or even internal, like our breathing, can be very calming.

Dealing with change

Posted by Paul Worswick on 22 April 2010 at 9:00 am

Many people shy away from change, they have a great fear of it, preferring instead to remain in the comforts of their existing lifestyle; their comfort zone. You’ll probably find these people have a very limited outlook on life and show very little ambition. The security of their sheltered life gives them the happiness they seek, however there is very little learning that takes place within the confines of their world, meaning they fail to benefit from any personal development or personal growth.

How much do you value trust?

Posted by Paul Worswick on 13 April 2010 at 9:00 am

Trust is something I hear discussed on a number of occasions; I’ve even taken the time to discuss it with myself. Personally, I feel it’s an important aspect of our everyday lives; I see many instances where it isn’t given the time or respect it warrants. So what is trust? What does it mean to you? How much do you rely on trust? How much do you value it?

Mind the gap

Posted by Paul Worswick on 30 March 2010 at 9:00 am

On Sunday I listened to a very inspirational piece of philosophy which referred to how we live our dash. What do I mean by your dash? It’s the bit in between your birth and your death. A bit of a play on words too. For example; if you’re born in 1935 and passed in 2009, your life span would have have been 1935 – 2009; the dash representing your life.

Getting things balanced

Posted by Paul Worswick on 26 March 2010 at 9:00 am

Having a balance in life is something we hear about a great deal, in many areas of our daily experiences. What exactly does it mean? Have a balanced life! Within the workplace and personal development areas you hear a lot about work life balance; creating an equal share of input to your job and home life.

Flexibility is the name of the game

Posted by Paul Worswick on 22 March 2010 at 9:00 am

The world you live in today isn’t, as you would expect the same world you were born into. I suppose that’s really stating the obvious. The pace of change in your world, far exceeds the one your forefathers enjoyed some years ago. When your parents, grandparents or great grandparents were on planet earth their life was more mundane, compared with the one we lead today.

A place for everything and everything in its place

Posted by Paul Worswick on 8 March 2010 at 9:00 am

“A place for everything and everything in it’s place” is a phrase I first heard in the late 90s, I had been contracted to help an organisation design and develop a staff development programme for their workforce. The phrase was one they had adopted as a way of encouraging people to keep their workplace clean and tidy.

How fussy are you about things in life?

Do you know someone who thinks that any opportunity is generally never good enough for them? Are you constantly saying to yourself “I’m not doing that!” when confronted with a potential opportunity that could open up some doors for you?
