Create a Mastermind team
The power of the human mind is without doubt one of the most under used features you have available to you. The energy available from one human mind is remarkable; the energy is a result of the knowledge the mind has gained. If knowledge is the fuel our our mental energy, how or where do we acquire knowledge in order to raise our mind’s energy levels? There are three basic sources of knowledge acquisition; self or group study, experiential learning and learning through experimentation. The power provided by these knowledge sources make the human mind a unique piece of equipment capable of fascinating achievements.
Now consider the following; if a single human mind is capable of being great than the sum of its parts, due to the energy generated by its knowledge bank, what can be achieved by two or more human minds working together! Creating a Mastermind team requires more than merely gathering a group of knowledgeable people with a common interest. It’s a great idea to include the use of mastermind as part of your personal development training; it will help your personal growth no end.
Selecting your team
Spend some time identifying the criteria by which you’ll identify your team with; don’t be afraid to make a few mistakes, especially if this is your first time. You’ll learn as you go along; it’s all part of the fun of the journey.
Your next step is to identify what you want your team to achieve or help you with; is it getting rich, building a successful business, developing successful relationships or becoming a successful celebrity. The contents of this list is totally your choice; again be patient, give yourself time and consult your personal goals, business goals and purpose in life. There is every chance you’ll need more than one team; also you may have one person in more than one team.
To help you identify who you want in your team, decide exactly what it is you want to learn from them, be specific. Don’t forget you may only get one chance, this luxury isn’t a life time luxury. You’ll have to work smartly; be efficient with your actions and effective with your decisions.
The people you consider for your mastermind team will be included primarily because of their knowledge and selected using a set of criteria. If you choose to use criteria where do you start? To apply what seems like an assessment to a team of knowledgeable people, will seem an arduous task to the best of us.
Where does your criteria come from? How about from what you want to achieve! The following are examples:
- What do you want your team to do?
- What skills will they need?
- Do you want them to attend meetings or will you just follow their success? (maybe through social media or news reports)
- etc.
Once you have identified your team you may be required to take steps to develop them. You don’t necessarily have to meet with your team members to benefit from their expertise; knowledge of their passage to success maybe all you need.
“A team is more than a collection of people. It is a process of give and take.” Barbara Glacel & Emile Robert Jr
If you need to contact or meet with a member of your team, make sure you are courteous, polite and respectful to them. They are offering you their valuable time; whilst I’m sure they’ll enjoy the experience, don’t forget they are going out of their way for you. They are successful not only because of what they’ve achieved but also because of how they achieved it; their willingness to help others is seen as an important feature of their make-up. However, do be careful about taking things for granted; they may not be in a position to be a member of your team, so prepare yourself for a few rejections and move on, quickly.
- Be clear about why each person is a member of your team. Give a name to why they are on the list.
- If either you or a member of your team are unable to meet up; identify how you will gather information about them and how they have achieved their success. How will they help you?
- If you are both able to meet; prepare well before hand, have a list of questions you are able to ask them
NOTE: If you’re asking some of your team members to attend a function or meeting, be very careful about asking them for a ‘big’ commitment, otherwise you may counteract the benefits of them being in the team!
When you’ve identified your team; get to work immediately, use your time wisely. One last word; learn to choose your team well.
“Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely.” Rodin
